Spring Styling Tips.

Spring is falling upon us this week, and with it comes longer evenings, hopes of sunnier weather, and the blossoming of seasonal flowers. We no longer yearn for dark and cosy spaces where we can snuggle up with our families to watch endless films, but instead, we look for bright and light areas that bring the outside in. With our windows wide open to let the smell of fresh flowers flow through our home and daydreams of when we can first eat outside- Spring comes with a sigh of relief that Winter is finally over. Therefore, it is no surprise that Spring is when many people are looking for a fresh start, whether that is indeed looking for another property or making changes to their interiors that are more welcoming to the warmer weather. However, we can’t always afford to re-decorate our homes every season, but there are a few easy changes we can make to update our homes and make them feel more suitable for the warmer months. Keep reading below for some of my easy tips on how you can transition your home!

  1. Incorporate Natural Materials

Natural materials bring warmth to a space while also bringing lightness and airiness to an otherwise dark and light deprived areas within your home.

Linen- No other material transports you to warmer months quite like linen. Although at first, it may seem like a tough fabric, don’t worry, it softens with age.  It is the perfect breathable material if you are looking to replace your heavy, dark curtains for the warmer months and let the warm Spring breeze flow through your home. Although often associated with creams and white tones, linen takes colour extremely well, and as we know, I am partial to more colourful spaces! Below I have included colourful options to show you how linen is more versatile than you may at first think, and if you want a bit more depth, I suggest layering the fabric.

Woven Baskets- Not only are baskets the perfect storage solution for when you have to put away hundreds of your children’s toys scattered on the floor, or for when Winter blankets no longer need to be brought out each evening, their neutral tone makes them blend into almost all spaces and brings a bit of a bohemian and rustic touch to a space.

2. Flowers

I am sure, like me, when you think of Spring, flowers are one of the first things to cross your mind. Spring brings magnolias, blossoms, tulips, and we can welcome peonies later on in the season. Flowers are the perfect way not only to uplift your mood but also your space. This is especially important if you don't have access to a garden. Whether you are after wildflowers, and you are lucky enough to be able to forest in your garden for an arrangement for the table, or you have to quickly pop to the local florists, flowers are the perfect way to introduce a bit of 'Spring' into your home. Below I have included pictures from some of my projects, and as you can tell, my colour of choice for flowers is pink. A fun tip- match your flowers to your paintings and accessories!

3. Brighten Up Your Tablescapes

I think tablescapes are the best way to experiment and have fun. Explore fun colour combinations and patterns, but make sure not to clutter the table too much!  During these uncertain times, and while we still can't visit our favourite dinner spots, making your table look elegant and beautiful will uplift your mood and make your warmer Spring evenings just that little bit more special. Try out floral tablecloths, or some playful candlesticks- I love these colourful twisted ones from Hay as they add something a bit different and a further point of interest to the table. Below you can see one of my tablescapes that I set up for some delicious afternoon tea, and, of course, my Iconic Plates are the main feature. If you love them as much as I do, they are available in an array of colours on my website.

4. Update Your Bookshelves and Coffee Tables

We are all partial to chucking lots of bits and bobs on our bookshelves and coffee tables. However, although I adore organised chaos and I approach my interiors with maximalism, just plain chaos looks cluttered and disorganised. So, whilst you are in the midst of your annual Spring clean, make sure that you aren’t just dusting each of your ornaments but instead sifting through which treasures you truly love and those you can live without. Some things are just not suited to the warmer months and can be stored away until the colder months resume later in the year. Also, make sure that Birthday cards only have their place on the shelf for a week- no one wants to see cards gathering up dust.
